THE BETTER MOVEMENT TEAM

The Better Movement Team consists of a small group of caring and emphatic instructors with high work ethics and integrity to give our best to each client.  We share the belief that every person can move better.  

Each team member is skilful, and as a team, resourceful and dynamic.  We work in an environment of honour and respect, and we take pride in what we do.

Our role is to advocate and facilitate mindful, healthy movement for our clients.

THE BETTER MOVEMENT STUDIO

Michelle Lim is the co‑Founder of The Better Movement Studio.  She is also floating Instructor Trainer(IT) of STOTT Pilates with Merrithew International – Leaders in Mindful Movement, for the Cadillac, Chair, Barrels, Reformer and Mat.  She has trained aspiring Pilates teachers internationally including in Canada, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, India, Vietnam, South Korea and China.  She lectured part-time at Lasalle College of the Arts, School of Dance where she graduated from, imparting Pilates and Movement Principles.

Michelle has taught in numerous settings, including at the Singapore Naval Diving Unit(NDU) and at a physiotherapy clinic.  Versatile and adept, Michelle has worked with varied clients from all walks of life.  She has taught post-rehab clients with spine and joints issues, clients with injuries such as shoulder and knee injuries, clients with physical conditions and clients with chronic pain.  She also worked with clients with specific physical goals like a bucket list for climbing a mountain.  She conducted pre-operation pilates sessions for example, for a client getting ready for heart surgery.  Her client-session Instructor skillset is multifaceted.  As an Instructor trainer, she teaches Pilates courses, mentors Pilates teachers and is also examiner for Pilates exams under Merrithew International, Canada.

With more than a decade of  experience as a movement educator,  
Michelle holds a deep appreciation for moving better and the skill of teaching movement better.  Her own Pilates journey that started in year 2005 has been truly life changing.  She envisions The Better Movement Team consisting of unique instructors who are skilful, creative and empathic- all having a common goal to help every client achieve their personal best.  She truly believes that everyone has the right to be more aware of their body and move better through life.  She hopes clients get that wonderful sense of consciousness, connection and power in movement, and they can navigate through all the moments in life more effortlessly.   Her aspiration is that The Better Movement Studio be a place that truly liberates and empowers one physically, emotionally and mentally.

Kevin’s love of dancing Argentine Tango led him to start exploring ways to condition his body to improve balance, flexibility, speed and suppleness in movement. He realized early on in his exploration of the dance that correct movement and body awareness play a critical role not only in dancing but also in everyday functional movement.

 

Introduced to Pilates by Michelle, opening The Better Movement Studio is his dream of sharing the methodology and thought process of Pilates to others. It produced amazing results for him personally in dance and movement. He hopes that you will be able to unlock similar results by exploring this avenue of body conditioning.

THE BETTER MOVEMENT STUDIO

Fion started as a professional commercial dancer, dancing all genre including jazz, ballet, contemporary, hip hop and ethnic dances.  She was trained in New York and Singapore, and performed on numerous live shows and TV programmes.  Having danced extensively for years, she starting having multiple dance injuries, knee and lower back issues.  Fion discovered Pilates while on her journey of rehabilitation.  Pilates has helped her understand the reasons she was getting the same injuries in her dancing, and how to correct her dance mechanics.  The Pilates system has been an astoundingly effective tool for her in preventing further injuries and improve her overall physicality and endurance in dance.

Fion has also used the Pilates system during her pre and post pregnancy.  She found Pilates to be healing when post-natal depression hit her.  During that time,  her Pilates session to honour her ‘me-time’ as a mother was important to help her stay sane, re-centre and recover quickly.  So Fion has a soft spot and lot of empathy for mothers, especially in their post-partum recovery and also having good physical self-care.

Fion has a keen eye for details and she enjoys sharing her Pilates knowledge and journey with clients from all walks of life.

Fion is certified by The Commonwealth Society of Teacher of Dancing(CSTD) , Pilates Academy International(PAI), and trained in The Centre of The Women’s Fitness method by Carolyne Anthony.

Schooled in the art of dance and movement since she was 5 years old, Ming Li has spent most of her life training her body.  The discipline of building strength, flexibility and coordination has become a part and parcel of her life. She has performed on numerous stages in Singapore and all over the world, including Southeast Asia, North Asia, Central Asia, India, Oceania, Europe and the U.S.A. With her extensive experience, Ming Li is a much sought-after artiste.  She choreographs and teaches in schools (ranging from pre-school to secondary level) as well as private sector companies in the banking, hospitality and shipping industries. She is known to be a dedicated, patient and focused coach and trainer.
Pilates was a logical progression for Ming Li.  In her quest to continually improve her posture and core strength, she finds it to be the perfect complement to her dance career.  Today, she is keen to help others discover how pilates can also work for nearly anyone.  She believes that the Pilates system is multi-faceted; it can be used as a tool for toning the body as well as to easing chronic pain- and ultimately contributing to a long and strong life. In her Pilates teaching, Ming Li is meticulous and attentive.  She is passionate to share the benefits she has gained from Pilates to her clients so that they in turn be empowered to  fulfil their personal physical and fitness goals.

Ming Li is certified with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and Pilates Academy International (PAI).

Meet Lyn, a dedicated Pilates instructor driven by her personal journey of transformation. Fueled by a deep desire to rectify her posture and find relief from persistent lower back pain, Lyn embarked on her own Pilates voyage in 2011. Her journey not only transformed her posture and diminished her pain, but it also ignited a profound increase in her awareness of movement. Her passion in imparting what she has gained from Pilates and her years of experience from teaching different kinds of client is evident in all her sessions.
Fun fact – Lyn’s husband is a full-time yoga teacher and Lyn is also certified to teach yoga. Her proficiency in both yoga and Pilates gives her a holistic perspective for cultivating physical strength and flexibility, connecting body with mind to improve learning and achieve overall well-being.

Lyn is certified in Polestar International, Pre & Post Natal Pilates by The Centre of the Women’s Fitness, Franklin Method Level 1 and RYT200 Yoga.

Michelle, Kevin, and Julina, co-founders of The Better Movement Studio, crossed paths in the world of Argentine Tango. Michelle and Julina are Pilates Instructors, and Kevin is the brain and the supporting hand behind the business. After years of continuous learning and exploring movement together, the like-minded souls decided to join forces and open a place where they can practice what they believe in, as well as provide a peaceful, safe, inviting environment for their clients to reconnect with themselves and their bodies.

Over the years, Michelle has provided movement education to a broad range of clients in the region.   From post-rehabilitating patients to competitive athletes, from expressive artists to deskbound officers, from corporate mindful movement classes to customized private pre-natal sessions, Michelle takes all her teaching experience to create an empowering learning environment in The Better Movement Studio.

Julina has a holistic health management background in corporate wellness management, human nutrition, public health, behavior coaching, dance and movement, women’s health and Tango Therapy for those suffering movement impairment. Julina spent years working internationally, speaking on and managing corporate wellness. The Better Movement Studio is the base of her work, and the place to devote her time to working specifically with women with movement needs, believing that our needs change as we progress in life!
